Paint Hard Surface Textures on to a Normal Map in Substance Painter.
I take a low poly mesh of a Tie Fighter, then paint and detail inside substance painter. The bulk of the detailing work is hard surface details, primarily using normal maps and height maps.
Substance Painter is a great program for creating PBR textures. You can easily paint Base Color, Normal, Height, Metallic, and Roughness maps. These maps can then be exported out to an external modeling program for Rendering.
