Please note that you only need to floss your teeth 1x/day (unless your dental provider says otherwise). And I prefer to floss my teeth at NIGHT, before bed. As for brushing – you need to brush both in the morning and at night (2x/day)! And I prefer brushing BEFORE breakfast because… When plaque bacteria (naturally present on your teeth even after brushing before bedtime) combines with breakfast food particles or acidic coffee beverages, it provides nourishment for the plaque. This, in turn, triggers the plaque to produce acids and other harmful byproducts. These substances are detrimental to your tooth enamel, increasing the risk of cavities and the accumulation of buildup, particularly on your lower front teeth. SO that’s why I’m all about brushing BEFORE breakfast :)
As for fluoride toothpaste: I use and recommend fluoride toothpaste. I’ve had patients go “fluoride-free” and in 6 months they return to our office with cavities. It’s heartbreaking to see, especially when it could have been prevented. Even more heartbreaking when it’s a kid. So, I tell my patients who refuse fluoride to make sure they at least use nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste. It’s not approved by the American Dental Association, but some studies have shown it having similar effects to fluoride.
