To reinstall Steam OS and factory reset your Steam Deck, follow these steps:
Download the Steam OS Recovery Image:
Visit the Steam Deck Recovery Instructions page and download the recovery image.
Create a Bootable USB Drive:
Use a tool like Rufus or Balena Etcher to create a bootable USB drive with the recovery image. Insert a USB drive (at least 16GB) into your computer, open Rufus, select the USB drive, and choose the downloaded recovery image. Click “Start” to create the bootable drive.
Boot into Steam Deck Recovery Mode:
Connect the USB drive to your Steam Deck using a USB-C adapter or dock.
Hold the Volume Up button and press the Power button to enter the BIOS menu.
Select Boot Manager and choose the USB drive.
Reinstall Steam OS:
In the recovery menu, select Re-image Steam Deck. This will reinstall Steam OS and reset your device to factory settings.
Set Up Your Steam Deck:
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process after the installation is finished.
