In Art Basel’s new Kabinett sector, Perrotin presents a tableau of works by Genesis Belanger. The New York-based ceramist’s work blurs the line between art and design, defying easy categorization. ‘One Bite of the Ripest Fruit’ is an absurdist rendition of everyday objects. Looking closely, one notices that many of the seemingly perfect pieces of fruit and treats are missing a single bite. The sleek works seen in ‘One Bite of the Ripest Fruit’ act as a substitute for the human body, one that occasionally verges on grotesque.
