Today, we'll be setting up a Raspberry Pi to use without a keybaord, mouse or monitor (aka, "headless"). We'll add Wi-Fi credentials (skip that bit if you're using an Ethernet cable), and install a TightVNC server, so you can still use the Raspberry Pi's desktop environment remotely.
To get .local addresses (aka mDNS) working on Linux, you'll need to install:
avahi-daemon - https://linux.die.net/man/8/avahi-daemon
For Windows, you need:
bonjour -http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999
