Easily treated illnesses can become life-threatening for migrants as they endure arduous treks and cramped living conditions to seek asylum in the US. Recent policies such as "metering" and "remain in Mexico" are putting even more pressure on strained shelters and service providers in Mexican border towns.
In Nogales, Mexico, a heroic binational team is stepping up to meet this urgent need. Francisco "Pancho" Olachea Martin is a volunteer medic who has been providing free care to people in need for over 10 years with his nonprofit Panchito y su Christina. Just as need spiked with the arrival of refuge seekers from Central America, he happened to meet a new grassroots group from Patagonia, Arizona that was looking for a way to help with the crisis. Voices from the Border ( / voicesfromtheborder ) now works hand in hand with Pancho to provide the supplies he urgently needs to do this incredible work. They are currently fundraising for this project at https://www.mightycause.com/organizat...
