Alexander The Great never lost a battle. Three thirty six B.C. In place of the murdered Philippos, his son Alexander, called the Great in history because of his rapid land conquests, ascends the throne of Macedonia. In his fifteen years of conquests, he never loses a battle, and thus becomes one of the greatest warriors and leaders of world history. Macedonian-Greek forces under Alexander invade Asia Minor to create the world's largest empire. Aristotle, Alexander's former teacher, founds his own school of philosophy, the Lykeion, in Athens. He collects and systematizes knowledge in all fields, these works have a very important place and influence in later medieval Europe. Later in the year, Alexander defeats a Persian force led by King Darius III at Issus, using his favorite military formation, the legendary phalanx. The Macedonians also capture Tyre, the main base of the Persian fleet on the Syrian coast, a former important trading city of the Phoenicians. It was a great year for the redhead.
