Sherry Miller, a former smoker, feared lung cancer after losing her father to the disease. During a routine physical, her doctor recommended a lung cancer screening. Sherry agreed, hoping for peace of mind. “In the back of my mind, there was always that worry,” she admits. When the screening revealed a nodule, Sherry was diagnosed with cancer. “It wasn’t unexpected, but it still shook my world a bit.”
Determined to take control of her health, Sherry began treatment at Henry Ford Health. Her thoracic surgeon, Dr. Oari, guided her through the process with compassion and clarity. On March 8th, Sherry underwent surgery to remove the cancer. Just one week later, she was out of the hospital and quickly back to her active life. “Two weeks later, I was back at the Detroit Repertory Theater as a greeter,” she proudly shares, continuing her love for acting and theater.
Sherry is deeply grateful for her second chance at life. “I’ve always been grateful for my life, but now I think it’s a bit sweeter knowing I’ll have more of it because this cancer is gone.” She encourages others to get screened early, stressing the importance of taking action. “Get the screening. It is so much better to know. You are stronger than you think.”
Sherry’s story is a testament to the power of early detection, the incredible care provided by Henry Ford Health, and the importance of a strong support system. She hopes her journey will inspire others to prioritize their health, take action, and trust in their strength to overcome life's challenges.
