During the Winter War 1939-40 against the invading USSR forces, Finland needed more Anti-tank capability. Among the military aids from Sweden to Finland in 1939, were 92 AT guns, mostly the 37 mm Pvkan m/38 from Bofors.
Finland got the license to also build their own m/38. The gun designation in Finland became 37 PstK/36 Bofors. Tampelia and VTT built the gun in Finland. The guns were very effective against the light tanks of the USSR forces during the Winter War. Both the Swedish and the Finnish guns used the same 37 X 258 mm shell, in both AP and HE.
