Weegee by Kerry William Purcell - http://theartofphotography.tv/usbq

Arthur Fellig (aka Weegee) was born in 1899. Born in the Ukraine, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 10.

After working as an assistant to various commercial photographers and darkrooms, Weegee decided to pave his own career path as a freelance news photographer. He would hang out in police stations around Manhattan. When a crime call would come over the scanner, he'd literally race the cops to the scene so that he could photograph in as much a raw state as possible - creating photos that were raw and had a "hot off the press" look.

Weegee's work reached much further than just that of a press photographer. He created a career on his own terms and injected a style that was brutal, but often humorous and at times absurd. He captured a state of New York by night in the early 20th Century. There hasn't been anyone since like Weegee.
