Utah Board of Education to discuss budget priorities, considers school meal program bill
State leaders are considering additional funding to help address the growing issue of school lunch debt across Utah.
In early September, Gov. Spencer Cox redirected over $1 million to the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Program. The State Board of Education is now discussing whether to support a potential bill that could provide up to $5 million more in funding, as school lunch debt has reached nearly $3 million in 2024.
Efforts to make school lunches more affordable for students are gaining momentum.
