Terminal lucidity, a.k.a. the surge a.k.a. the end of life rally a.k.a. the death rally, happens in about 4 out of 10 dying people. This burst of energy almost seems like it is a last ditch effort for the body to try to live. Families will often think that their person is getting better when in fact, they are close to the end of their life. The rally usually only lasts for a day or less, and they almost always will die within about a week.
