Marmosets (or marmosets) are miniature primates from the marmoset family, living in the tropical forests of South America. These animals are really small: on average, their weight is only about 100-150 grams, and their body length is about 20 cm, not counting the long tail, which is sometimes even longer than the body itself.
Their special feature is extreme dexterity and activity. Thanks to their long and tenacious fingers, marmosets are excellent acrobats, easily moving along tree branches, clinging to bark and vines. Interestingly, they can turn their heads almost 180 degrees, which helps them vigilantly monitor what is happening around them.
These primates live in small family groups, where social life and interaction between group members play a key role. They are sociable and produce a wide range of sounds, from high-pitched squeaks to trills, and their furry ears and large-eyed faces give them an extremely cute appearance.
Marmosets are omnivorous, feeding on fruits, insects, small animals, and tree sap. Some species, such as the pygmy marmoset, even bore holes in tree bark to drink sap, which is a unique trait.
They are known for their rapid reproduction: females can give birth twice a year, producing 1-2 young. However, other members of the group, including males, often take on the care of the young, which makes them unusual in the primate world, where maternal instincts are usually stronger.
Due to their small size and specific lifestyle, marmosets are extremely sensitive to environmental changes, especially deforestation.
