This was a great question that came up from my other Amazon Royalties video : • Should I do the 35% or 70% royalty ra...
The question was, can I as the author set one price for my paperback on Amazon KDP and then a different price for in-person sales. They want to incentivize more direct sales and plan to offer a lower price.
YES! As an indie author, you can do this. You can even charge the same price but offer more benefits.
The catch is that Amazon actively indexes the internet to find the price of every item that is also sold on their website. If they find a lower price, they match to it. So if you are advertising the lower price (in this case, $10.00) on your website, Amazon may price match to it anyway. If this is a promoted discount on your in-person event fliers you may be able to fly under the radar, but just know Amazon may catch the lower price anyways. Once the new price is indexed it may take time to re-index if you decide to raise the price.
