Red Kommando takes a distinctive approach by intertwining their music with the notorious and violent history of the Comando Vermelho (Red Commando), one of Brazil's most infamous criminal organisations. This group, associated with a litany of crimes including drug trafficking, assassinations, theft, and extortion, predominantly operates in Rio de Janeiro but also exerts influence across neighbouring countries. This unlikely thematic brings an unusual and striking depth to the album, setting it apart from the more typical mythological or nature-focused themes often found in black metal.
This record is an uncompromising work, characterised by its lo-fi aesthetic that channels the unrelenting hostility and chaos, capturing the fury inherent in their message. Despite its rough edges, it does not shy away from incorporating dungeon synth elements, which adds a haunting, otherworldly dimension to the relentless black metal onslaught.
