An Overview of the Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) Protocol: https://www.digikey.com/en/maker/tuto...
If you want an easy way to connect peripherals to your electronics project, you want to use I2C. I2C, short for Inter-Integrated Circuit protocol is super easy to use because it only needs four wires - power, ground, clock and data. You can control over 1000 peripherals from one controller, and you can even have multiple controllers controlling the same peripherals.
To use the peripherals in software you’ll need to identify the address in your code. Every device will have its own address preprogrammed into it, but there’s usually a few solder pads you can short if you need a different address - useful if you want multiples. The protocol is popular enough that multiple manufacturers like Adafruit and Sparkfun have homogenized it into these easy to use connectors. Perfect for solder-free projects.
