There are some great connections between the animation Coco and the movie The Shining. Let me show you how. As you may know, Coco has two directors, and one of them is Lee Unkrich, who is a big fan of The Shining. Because of this, there are several references to The Shining in the Coco animation that you can spot if you look closely.

The first reference is the axe behind Dante and the wordplay with "red drum," cleverly incorporated into the animation. The second reference is when Miguel enters the art gallery. We see many paintings, but if you look carefully at one particular painting, you can see that the twin sisters in it are actually the twin sisters from The Shining.

I think the director included these details to show how much he loves The Shining.
