Fix Shopify Error: "A Store With That Name Already Exists"
In this Shopify Tip, Nick addresses a very common problem newly subscribed Shopify users are facing whenever they try to register a new store name and are presented with this error "A store with that name already exists".
There are a few reasons one may see this error message:
1. There is an Active Shopify store registered with this store name.
2. The store name was registered/reserved in the past and the store is no longer active.
Either way, there is no option to transfer a store name from one store to another. The only solution is to create a totally new store name, possibly add a number to your existing name.
At the end of the day, what's MOST important is the domain name (.com, .ca, .de, etc.) for your store, this is what your visitors will see. So, make sure to register your domain name and point it to your Shopify store.
You can use Shopify itself for domain registration or 3rd party domain registrars such as NameSilo.com
