How to Preserve Wood with Fire
The art and science of shou sugi ban and yakisugi has been used for thousands of years to preserve wood when exposed to the elements in the outdoors. I have been charring wood not only for above grade preservation and aesthetics, but also below grade to preserve posts that are buried in, or are in contact with, the ground. This is how I do it for each application.
