This video documents the process of building a D-I-Y and low cost eGPU Rig (or External GPU) for 3D Rendering and AI calculation purposes. This rig can be used for accelerating Blender & Rhino 3D Cycles based renders and animations. It can also be used for Stable Diffusion (A 1111, Fooocus, ComfyUI, etc) AI calculation. GPU calculation allows the utilization of the graphics card for image rendering, instead of the CPU. This can speed up rendering because modern GPUs can performs intense calculation rapidly.
This video demo uses a Nvidia P106-100 card which is a mining card without video output. This provides a new lease of life and purpose for such cards, instead of them eventually becoming e-waste.
EGPUs can be useful for several reasons, including:
Improved graphics performance: EGPUs can significantly enhance the graphics performance of smaller desktops that lack powerful graphics cards. They can improve gaming and video editing performance, and provide faster rendering times for 3D graphics and video effects.
Upgradability: EGPUs can be a cost-effective way to upgrade a computer's graphics performance without having to buy a new computer. Graphics cards can be swapped out and upgraded as needed, extending the life of a computer.
Compatibility: EGPUs are compatible with a wide range of devices, including desktop computers from different manufacturers and operating systems.
Overall, an eGPU can be a useful tool for anyone who needs high-quality graphics performance on a desktop computer.
