Why 64GB of DDR4 is So Much Better on X299 - Y-Cruncher Record with Core i9 7900X
After I realized my previous Y-Cruncher 1B top result wasn't enough as AKM had some better run saved, I thought the key is really in the memory, and in OS efficiency. I wanted to try 4x16GB configuration on the EVGA X299 DARK but I lacked another set of memory. I was lucky and I found another kit of the very same memory I already use, so 4266 CL17 G.Skill Ripjaws V, and now the performance is definitely better.
I had some issues at the start with IMC stability, but after a while I managed to get many fast runs already at DDR4-3600 CL12-11-11 and at the end I even passed the same frequency as always, so DDR4-3800 with same timings.
If you still run this platform today, then dual rank memory configuration wouldn't be a bad idea as they are much cheaper now than before. On the enthusiast sockets like X299/C622 you also don't have the command rate issues that were common on the mainstream platforms.
