For married decedents, the share of the surviving spouse in the communal or conjugal properties after deducting ordinary deductions (losses, indebtedness, taxes, vanishing deduction, and transfer for public use). The share of the surviving spouse is the last deductible item from the gross estate before computing the estate tax.
