Building on the earlier video on toast menus and UI Frames ( • Component Toast Menu Tutorial - UI Fr... ), this video shows how to use components states to create animated overlays in Adobe XD and Figma that can slide-in and auto animate below other elements on the artboard.
Overlays and Slide-in Limitations
Because the device image is at the top of the layer stack, animated overlays with a slide-in effect will slide in on top of the phone image. This may be distracting or confusing to some viewers. We recommend using dissolve transitions or no transition or overlays. Here is a blog post showing are several tips on how to use smart animate to create toast menus and overlays using button states or duplicate artboards. The sample shown in the video uses smart animate for the toast menu animation without issue. The overlays are not animated, but could be using the components states function.
Some slide or smart animate transitions may also be impacted by the device image. In most cases, if the device image is repeated on two artboards that are linked with a smart animate transition, the phone sits in place while other elements smart animate behind it. The sample shown in the video uses smart animate for the bottom menu animation.
Occasionally, the phone may seem to animate or slide, but this seems to be a glitch with the preview mode. Be sure to test out your transitions with the device frame turned on before sharing your preview.
