Opel Astra 2022/2023

The new Opel Astra is here. The all-new, sixth generation of the compact class bestseller is a real design gem with Opel Vizor, fully digital Pure Panel and top technologies such as the latest version of adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light. With the newcomer, the German manufacturer is now opening the next chapter of the more than 30‑year Astra success story: for the first time, the compact class model from Rüsselsheim is available with electric drive. The new Astra is now available to order as a plug-in hybrid, and a second performance level will be introduced this year. From 2023 a battery-electric Astra-e will complete the offer. In addition, there are versions with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines in combination with friction-optimised six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions.

The new Astra has something for everyone in terms of drive alternatives – it is the first Opel model that will soon offer customers the choice between pure electric drive, plug-in hybrid or combustion engine. The power range extends from 81 kW/110 hp to 165 kW/225 hp system output (WLTP1 combined fuel consumption: 5.8-1.0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 131-22 g/km) – so superior driving performance is guaranteed. Opel combines driving fun with top efficiency and environmental consciousness in the latest generation of its compact class bestseller.

And does so at the usual attractive prices: the sporty five-door model is available from €22,465 (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany) – not a cent more expensive than the basic version of the predecessor. Numerous state-of-the-art assistance systems such as front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and drowsiness detection are standard equipment in every version. Lively performance is provided by the 81 kW/110 hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo direct injection petrol engine with 6-speed manual gearbox (WLTP1 combined fuel consumption: 5.5-5.4 l/100 km, 126-123 g/km CO2).

For those who prefer to drive electrically, the new Astra Hybrid is available from an attractive €35,800 or €28,622.50 after deducting the Environmental Bonus. It provides a system output of 133 kW/180 hp and a powerful 360 Newton metres of maximum torque (WLTP1 combined fuel consumption: 1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-24 g/km). In pure electric mode, the new Astra Hybrid can cover up to 60 kilometres (WLTP2) emissions-free. The top of the range unit in the engine portfolio is the top-of-the-line hybrid, which will be available to order in the course of the year, with an impressive 165 kW/225 hp system output (WLTP1 combined fuel consumption: 1.4-1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 31-24 g/km; preliminary figures).

Opel Vizor with Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light: Eyecatcher with top technologies

The new Opel Astra is also a design statement for the brand. Dynamic as never before, with sheer, taut surfaces, detoxed of superfluous elements and with the new brand face – the Opel Vizor. This shows at first glance that the Astra is ready to define a new era.

A leap in time has taken place in the interior of the new generation Astra. With the fully digital Pure Panel, analogue instruments are consigned to history. Instead, the new human-machine-interface (HMI) with fresh, modern graphics offers customers a pure, more intuitive experience. Passengers can operate the new Astra intuitively via extra-wide touchscreens, just like a smartphone. The Opel designers and engineers have taken great care to ensure that the driver receives all the necessary information and useful operating options, but is not burdened with superfluous data or functions. In addition, key settings such as climate control can still be operated via physical switches and buttons.

The new Astra is 4,374 millimetres long and 1,860 mm wide. It is only 4.0 mm longer than the previous model. The wheelbase increased by 13 mm to 2,675 mm.

luggage volume: 422 litres - with the rear seats folded down: 1,339 litres - (Astra Hybrid 1,268 litres)
