Unlike most Disney villains who are aware of their cruel tendencies or who love being evil, Judge Claude Frollo believes he is a good man. Frollo is self righteous convinced he is above sin and purer than "the common vulgar, weak, licentious crowd." As the minister of justice, he attempts to act in the name of God, so when he begins to find temptation, he is tortured by his own evil even though he has committed so many sins himself. Judge Frollo is genocidal, murderous, sexually aggressive and is willing to burn Paris to the ground to cleanse the world of the unholy, making him one of the darkest, yet most realistic, villains Disney has ever manifested.
