Handmade leather journal cover for a LEUCHTTURM1917 hardcover bullet journal notebook. Made from 5-6 oz veg tan leather, featuring a hand-tooled wave carving, a debossed quote and a debossed monogram, both made with 3D printed stamps.
The Norwegian quote on the back is from Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt, and translates to:
"No patriot was he. Both for church and state a fruitless tree. But there, on the upland ridge, in the small circle where he saw his calling, there he was great, because he was himself."
The 3D printed stamps are made from PLA, using 0.15mm layer heights, 100% infill and 0.075" of relief. A light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper removes the 3D printed surface texture and makes for a beautiful, crisp debossing. I left the larger stamp clamped to the wet leather for about 5 minutes, moving the clamps around a few times to ensure even pressure. The smaller initial stamp only took about 45 seconds in the clamps to get a nice, deep impression.
The inner flaps are made from suede, and attached to the cover with barge contact cement reinforced with saddle stitching. The edges are burnished with gum tragacanth and beeswax.

Big thanks to Martin, who commissioned this journal cover as a gift for his wife. He came up with this beautiful design and was a pleasure to work with on this project!
