You can't really say you have a "smart" home if you still have to get off the couch to turn up the volume or change the channel on the TV. To use your TV Remote with your Smart Home Hub (like Home Assistant), you need an IR Bridge. Broadlink makes a couple models, and they both work well for IR devices.
The first half of this video will show you how to add the Broadlink devices to Home Assistant and start learning IR codes from your remotes.
The second half is about how to use the Broadlink RM Pro to learn RF (433mhz) codes for other types of remotes or sensors. The process for learning RF codes is a bit convoluted. I don't plan on using it much myself, but I've included it for anyone who wants to try it.
