Made it to Trat Town which happens to be the capital of the Trat province here in Thailand 🇹🇭
Most travellers seem to only use Trat as a transit town, they stay the night or even just jump straight on a ferry the same day to the Islands here in Eastern Thailand such as koh Chang, koh Kood & koh mak.
We had different plans we booked a few days in a hotel called the 'orchid guesthouse' which was £6 a night through agoda for a double room what a steal!!
So we set off to explore the small city of Trat to see if its worth visiting! We headed out for breakfast first as we were starving but on the way found a stunning little Chinese shrine which was a nice surprise.
For breakfast we hit up a little spot that was full of locals and had so many delivery orders flying out the door. For only 50 THB each we got a massive plate of mixed seafood rice aswell as a mixed seafood Tom yum noodle soup. These dishes were so tasty it was clear why this place was so busy and the food cost $1.50 which is criminally good.
On the way out I also spotted a DIY dessert station so had to get one of those for 10 THB.
Just down the road from that incredible food spot is the Trat reservoir which was super nice to walk around, there's also a cycle path but we didn't have a bike with us unfortunately!
We came across a street lady selling the rare fried coconut banana snack we had in Bangkok, they were super fresh so we could not pass up the chance in getting another!
The streets of Trat were surprisingly scenic and chilled we found a wall full of paintings depicting various different places in the Trat province.
Grabbed a huge bunch of exotic fruit to try for 20 THB before checking out a local shops mental crisp selection!
Now to finish the day we hit up the Trat Street food night market which as you know we love Thai food!
We grabbed some delicious fried shrimp rings, a fresh coconut water, some of the best freshly fried fishcakes ever! Before sitting down with a super interesting meal.
So for my tea I got a fish maw soup which was new for me! It has the fish maw inside aswell as a chicken leg, blood cake, bamboo shoots, rice noodles, mushrooms. It appeared to be similar in texture to a rad na, kind of slimy but surprisingly delicious and only 35 THB which is a bargain!
A lovely Thai person walked past and gave us a free chocolate cake which made our day, this was before we ate the final snack on our time in Trat which was a traditional fermented sticky rice parcel - this I highly recommend trying it had such a strange taste I cannot explain but was addictive.
