Are you growing sweetcorn this season?

🌽 Sow one seed per cell in a tray with large modules. We're using the Huw Richards' designed HR10 & HR20 in this video.

🌽 Germination rates can be low so it's a good idea to sow twice what you need. 18 -21°C is ideal so a nice warm, sunny windowsill or propagator will do the job.

🌽 If you are sowing more than one variety it may be better to leave 3 weeks between sowing as cross pollination can effect the sweetness & number of kernels on the corn. Plant the different varieties as far from each other as possible.

🌽 Sweetcorn is an outdoor crop for warm gardens but here in the northwest it is far more successful in the polytunnel, cosy & sheltered.

🌽 Planting Sweetcorn
Sweetcorn is a tender plant so choose a warm, sheltered & sunny spot. Sweetcorn grows best in a block/grid with 30-45cm apart to ensure plants pollinate each other (the exception to this is baby corn which you sow in rows with about 20cm between plants) .

🌽 If you are planting outside, wait until all risk of frost has passed before you plant your seedlings. 😉
