Huge Mac Tuna fishing the bait balls of Moolooba - Sunshine Coast fishing
Caught my first Tuna today in the mooloobah bait balls!! Took me about 45 mins today hitting multiple balls, then instant hookup in this new ball. Fight time of just under 8 mins on a 4000 reel. Absolutely stoked. One of the best fights of my life, as I’ve only caught a couple big fish like this (1 mackerel and 1 big tusky). Took him home to use for bait the next couple of Reef sessions.
She weighed about 6-7kg (guesstimate) and went 77cm long.
I’ve tried hitting bait balls a dozen times in the past but always used too big of metal slugs. So boight the smallest ones I could after seeing what the tuna were feeding on a few days ago on a ski ride.
I know mac tuna are pretty common fish, but for me this is bloody awesome and worked hard for it and is a sick milestone for me!! Especially it being so big!! What a fun battle, I got the whole 8 min fight on my GoPro, I might upload it to YouTube so everyone can see some mooloobah midweek tuna fight 👌
