Recognizing Achievement at Modern Martial Arts
There’s a difference between Rank and Recognition. In martial arts we have ranks starting with white belts and moving through blackbelt and beyond. Every few months students who have shown their hard work and dedication are allowed to move to the next level. While this rank is important, it’s a symbol that points to a broader recognition. When we tie that belt around their waist, we are also tying the student to a tradition and a larger community. Not only a community of martial artists but the community of family, friends, and neighborhoods that helped to make that rank possible. Our graduation ceremonies are always festive and celebratory because students invite their friends and family to participate in the recognition of their rank. At Modern Martial arts we love recognizing our students, but also know that part of that is recognizing you the family and communities that work hard every day to make sure all of us are becoming the best possible human beings we can be.
