Do You Really Need A New Preamp?
Do you really need that shiny new preamp that all the forums are telling you will be a night and day difference from your current setup? Yes and No.
Whilst a new preamp will likely change the tonal characteristics of the instruments you're recording, it's unlikely that just this one link in the chain is going to make your recording sound completely different. These kind of differences come as the sum of a number of factors, that all need to be aligned.
In this video I take a look at how much difference an external preamp can make to your sound compared to those in a consumer grade interface, and discuss the pros and cons of either option.
