TRANSCRIPT:
The final cut update 10.4.9 has added some features to Final Cut
and one of those is the Duplicate Project as...
and with this in mind, I thought it was a good time to review
what can be a confusing choice in Final Cut?
There are now three ways to duplicate a project.
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to clearly see the differences.
And at the end of the tutorial, I'll review the things that you've learned.
I'm Bruce Macbryde and my goal is to improve your knowledge and to speed up
your workflow in Final Cut. In the description below you will find
timestamps that will jump you to different parts of this video.

There are three ways to duplicate a project.
There's Duplicate project, which is the same as it was in 10.4.8
There's Duplicate project as.. which is now a new feature in 10.4.9
and there's one called Snapshot project, which is a rename
of the old "Duplicate as a snapshot" in the previous version of Final Cut.
When you decide to duplicate a project, the first thing you need to
understand is what is the name that Final Cut
has given you and perhaps you should change that to
something that you DO understand. The second lesson is to make
sure that you have the correct duplicated project in your timeline.
Either the duplicated project or the original project
Now when you duplicate a project, Final Cut
leaves the original project in the timeline.
So it's up to you to open the duplicated project,
if that's the one you want to edit. The other thing to consider is that
duplicating a project is a good thing to do.
They don't take up much extra space on the hard disk
and so it gives you more choices as you're going through the edit.
So if we have a look at a project now and we can see we have one here.
Right-click on that we've got "Duplicate Project" "Duplicate project as.."
and "Snapshot" of the project. If we just duplicate the
project, then Final Cut gives you a duplicate
of that project - and it numbers it, one two three depending on
how many duplicates you make.
When you just duplicate a project, any compound clips are in fact kept
the same. So if you make a change in a compound clip
in the original project then the duplicated project,
will have those changes.
