In this video, we want to test how well Git performs on large game development projects that contain a lot of binary files, such as Unreal Engine content and art assets. We are pushing a total of 1TB and approx. 400.000 files to a self-hosted GitLab server on AWS using Anchorpoint.
Git has a reputation for not scaling well for large binary projects. But contrary to some rumors, if it's configured properly, there are no file or storage limits. With new features like sparse checkout or Git LFS, it performs at a decent speed even on large projects.
Everything what is shown in the video can also be achieved with the Git command line.
