World's Largest Volcano

It's commonly believed that when the earth is insulted, she responds through volcanoes. A volcano's typical features include molten magma, heavy clouds of noxious gasses, and lava. We will also examine the location of the biggest volcano on Earth as well as a number of other things in this video.

One of the five volcanoes that make up the Hawaiian island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean is Mauna Loa, which means "Long Mountain." In terms of mass and volume, it is the biggest and most massive subaerial volcano on Earth.

It has long been believed that Tamu Massif is the only larger volcano on Earth. Despite having a peak that is roughly 125 feet lower than Mauna Kea's, it is an active shield volcano with relatively mild slopes and a volume estimated at 18,000 cubic miles. Lava eruptions from Mauna Loa are very fluid, silica-poor, and typically non-explosive.

Mauna Loa may have risen above sea level about 400,000 years ago, and it has most certainly been erupting for at least 700,000 years. Less than 200,000 years have passed since the oldest known dated rocks were discovered.

The Hawaii hotspot, which built the Hawaiian island chain over tens of millions of years, is the source of the volcano's magma. Mauna Loa will eventually be transported away from the hotspot by the Pacific Plate's gradual advance, and it will go extinct in 500,000 to 1 million years.

Between March 24 and April 15, 1984, Mauna Loa had its most recent eruption. Volcanic eruptions in 1926 and 1950 destroyed communities, and the city of Hilo is mostly built on late nineteenth-century lava flows, despite the fact that there haven't been any fatalities from volcano eruptions recently.
