From team captain of a youth basketball team to the president of Tulane’s Graduate and Professional Student Association, Arianne has learned several lessons about what it meant to be a leader. However, the biggest lessons were brought on by the difficulties of leading during a global pandemic while carrying the weight of representing the underrepresented. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and woman of color in white-dominant arenas, Arianne recognized the emotional and mental taxation required of underrepresented leaders, realized that such leaders had an abundance of untapped potential, and gained a better understanding of how to access that potential. Arianne learned that “uneasy is the head that wears a crown,”, especially for underrepresented leaders, but that did not mean we couldn’t learn to thrive. Arianne Sacramento is a graduate student who has studied Medicine, Business, and Public Health. Arianne is proud member of the LGBTQIA+ and women of color community who is ready to share her journey. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
