Nomiki Konst is a progressive fighter who has spent years holding power accountable and working for visionary reform.
She lives in the heart of Astoria. As a Greek American, her ties to the community run deep, going back to when her father was the NYS Governor of the Order of American Hellenic Educational Progressives Association (AHEPA), which was founded to fight for civil rights and against discrimination, bigotry, and hatred felt at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan.
In 2019, she founded the women’s group Matriarch, dedicated to social, racial, and economic justice, to help get working women into public office. In 2020, they elected one of their founding members, Cori Bush, to the United States Congress.
Nomiki knows how to deliver results for progressives. That is why Senator Bernie Sanders asked her to be a national surrogate for his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. Then, when the Democratic National Committee’s Unity Reform Commission was formed, Senator Sanders asked her to be one of his 8 founding members, serving on the commission for two years getting to add more progressive values to the national Democratic platform.
Nomiki has spent years working as an investigative journalist covering inequality and climate change across America and in Puerto Rico. Since Hurricane Maria of 2017, Nomiki has regularly covered Puerto Rico and the disaster capitalism ensued. In addition to her reporting, she has been a left commentor or contributor on CNN, CBS, MSNBC, NPR, the Hill, the Majority Report, The Young Turks, and hosted a 5 day a week 3 hour a day podcast on SiriusXm
Nomiki is a progressive activist. A founding organizer of NYPAN in 2016, she has been on the forefront of progressive organizing in the state of New York. Through her years of raising awareness and reporting on the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC), her work culminated in on the ground organizing. These efforts led to the ousting of fake Democrats and the IDC, giving New York its first opportunity in over half a century to take steps forward instead of being stuck in the past.
It is time to bring her years of experience to Albany, because she is ready to fight for progressive policies on day one. Nomiki believes housing, health care, and a living wage are human rights, and that it is the role of the government to guarantee them.
