Serving as the inaugural installment in the Arma series, it acts as a spiritual successor to the 2001 video game Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, also developed by Bohemia. The narrative unfolds on the fictional Atlantic island of Sahrani, depicting United States Armed Forces military advisors caught in the crossfire of a conflict between two rival nations on the island.
