Welcome to Excel in a Minute!
For other lookup functions, there is a strict order of position between the lookup and return array. However, did you know that there is a lookup function that can still return a value regardless of the position of your lookup array?
In this video, we will show you how important it is for a lookup function to be able to lookup both ways.
The X LOOKUP function syntax has 6 arguments, where the first 3 are required and the other 3 are optional. The function searches a value from a lookup array and returns a value from a return array.
Since these arrays are separate, the lookup array does not need to be on the left side of the return array for vertical lookup, or at the upper side of the return array for horizontal lookup.
