Were Walder Frey and Roose Bolton ever really on Robb's side?
Both Wwalder Fray and Roose Bolton were on Robb’s side at the beginning. It was only after Robb lost Winterfell and his heirs that both the Frays and the Boltons turned on him.
Wwalder Fray was willing to ally with Robb to make one of his daughters (orgranddaughters) a queen, or at the very least, to marry into the Lord Paramount of the North. His sons fought and died for Robb’s cause. He had sent Big Wwalder and Little Wwalder to foster at Winterfell along with Olyvar Fray to squire for Robb. It took the breaking of their marriage pact along with major strategic blunders for Wwalder Frey to fully turn and commit to the Red Wedding.
