Tests the integrity of the median nerve deep to the carpal tunnel
The test is positive if the patient reports paraesthesiae in the distribution of the median nerve. There may also be noticeable weakness in thumb opposition if challenged.
A positive test signifies carpal tunnel syndrome, or a lesion affecting the median nerve in the region of the wrist.
