Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin (born December 16, 1932, Moscow, USSR) - Soviet and Russian composer, pianist, music teacher, public figure; National artist of the USSR (1981), laureate of the Lenin Prize (1984), the State Prize of the USSR (1972) and two State Prizes of the Russian Federation (1992, 2018).
Composed in 1961 as a compulsory piece for the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the brilliant virtuoso "Basso Ostinato" is still very popular with pianists. "Basso Ostinato" is dedicated to Yakov Vladimirovich Flier, a brilliant pianist, Shchedrin's piano teacher at the conservatory, in whose class the growing musician not only acquired first-class pianist art, but also made significant progress in his general musical tastes and knowledge.
