Custom fonts are killing performance, but what can we do about it? There is a way - it's called Modern Font Stacks. No Downloads, no layout shifts, no flashes - just instant renders.
Regular/custom fonts require your visitor to download every font to see your website. If you use italics, bold 500, and bold 900, that's three different files (or one if you use variable fonts) that the visitor must download!
However, our devices come with fonts preinstalled. The problem is each operating system uses different fonts. Modern Font Stacks fixes this by grouping similar fonts, letting you rely on existing fonts on your visitors' devices.
