Tests the integrity of the median nerve deep to the carpal tunnel.
The test is positive if the patient reports paraesthesiae (tingling, pins and needles, numbness, weakness) in the distribution of the median nerve. There may also be noticeable weakness in thumb opposition.
A positive test signifies carpal tunnel syndrome.
