Carlos Rio designed the first disc golf course in Spain, Parque De Invierno, in 2012 in the city of Oviedo, Spain. He continued course development in Spain and is currently an Innova Ambassador for the region. In July 2023, the disc golf club in Oviedo hosted the Oviedo Open at the Parque Purificacion Tomas (Puri) 18-hole course. Sam Ferrans and Jeff Panis visited Carlos and the hosts of the event to discover the beauty and growing popularity of disc golf in Spain. Special Guest "Big Jerm" Jeremy Koling competed in the event and was a welcome ambassador to everyone in attendance.
