Explore some non-standard but curious command buttons on the Font group: Character Border, Character Shading, Enclose Characters, and Phonetic Guide.
I have no idea how these appeared, but you can add them to your version of Word - only if you're willing to create a new tab and command group on the Ribbon. Crazy stuff!
