Partly inspired by Robbie's friend model Kate Moss, 'South Of The Border' was the third single from 'Life Thru A Lens', and released in the UK in September 1997 where it peaked at No. 14. It was the first of Robbie's releases to fail to reach the Top 10 since his early days with Take That, a statistic that was pounced on by his detractors - little did they know...
It is another of Robbie's hits written with Guy Chambers, who also adds guitar and keyboards to this recording. Guest musicians include in-demand harmonica player Mark 'The Harp' Feltham, who - when not playing with British Rhythm & Blues band Nine Below Zero - has recorded with talents as diverse as Talk Talk, The KLF, Oasis and Will Young.
The promo video for 'South Of The Border' was the second of two that saw Robbie working with British director Thomas Napper; in 1997 he was also responsible for the video for 'Found You', the eight Top 40 hit for BritPop band Dodgy.
