Are Metallica just regular guys who got lucky? According to one of my viewers Kirk Hammett isn't much of a guitar player. Does he even deserve his position as lead guitarist in the biggest metal band ever? Is this just jealousy, or does he have a valid point? There's plenty of footage where Kirk and the boys are making mistakes live. Wouldn't you think they'd play more accurately after nearly half a century of performance experience? In order to find out if Metallica are just average joes who were in the right place, right time, we'll be watching a live version of The Call Of The Ktulu. This is the first show of their 72 seasons world tour, kicking off in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In my opinion, the value of a live show isn't in flawless execution but energy transference. Music is a language of emotion. People go to a show to see passionate performers. Yes, we do expect a certain level of competence but standing on stage like a robot playing perfectly doesn't move our feelings. It's ok to make some mistakes if you're connected to your craft and having a good time.
