Vyacheslav Ivankov, known as "Yaponchik", was a criminal mastermind and thief in law. He was murdered in 2009 in Moscow. According to investigators, representatives of another criminal group were involved in the murder of Yaponchik, who wanted to expand their influence in the criminal world. In 2021, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent the criminal case of Yaponchik's murder to court. In 2023, one of the co-defendants was sentenced to 16 years in prison. The rifle from which Yaponchik was killed was found in South Ossetia in 2023. According to available information, Ilya Simonia was the organizer of the killing. The conflict between Ilya Simonia and Yaponchik is related to the deprivation of Simonia's title of thief-in-law as a result of a conflict with Ivankov. According to investigators, the motive for killing Yaponchik was the promised return of Simonia's status as a thief-in-law and general patronage.
