Laax: Could this little place in the Swiss Alps be Europe's first sustainable winter sports town? Ski season starts and most of the slopes are still green - this is becoming a common occurrence in Europe. To keep customers happy many resorts use huge cannons to blow artificial snow onto the pistes in areas where there is no natural snow.
To combat the bad environmental footprint of these snow cannons, more and more ski resorts in the Alps are trying to speak to the environmental awareness of their visitors, building solar powered lifts, using renewable energy sources or building eco-friendly hotels. But how sustainable can ski resorts really be? We went to Laax to find out.
